Susannah King

MSc MCSP HCPC Chartered Physiotherapist

Migraine Management, Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy, TMD (Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction), Vestibular Therapy

I formed Susannah King Physiotherapy Clinic to provide a comprehensive holistic physiotherapy service to the North West London community.

I have over 30 years of experience in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and combine this with my specialist training in treating head/face pain, Migraine, Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and Vestibular disorders.

I have extensive experience in treating acute sports injuries and enjoy the analytical process of identifying and addressing the root causes of work or posture-related issues that often lead to spinal and joint pain. By collaborating closely with my patients, I develop personalised treatment plans aimed at resolving their pain efficiently and preventing recurrence.

With a particular interest in Posture, Movement and Exercise, I follow a neuromuscular approach to movement, rehabilitation and performance in order to enable patients to rediscover the freedom of movement once again.

Ergonomics is about fitting the workplace to patients’ needs. If needed, I will visit their place of work to carry out assessments, recommendations and setup of their work station to fit to the patient.

My ethos is to listen, understand and work with each individual patient to develop a tailored approach that addresses their specific needs, helping them return to the activities they love!

Origins

My initial fascination with physiotherapy was ignited during my time assisting in my father's physical medicine practice in Vancouver, Canada. This curiosity led me across the Atlantic to the UK, where I pursued my studies in Physiotherapy at Manchester, graduating in 1990. Transitioning to London, I embarked on a career within the NHS, finding myself at St Thomas' Hospital. It was here that I discovered my true passion lay in the analytical approach to outpatient musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

In 1993, I undertook further academic pursuit, completing an MSc at UCL in this specialised area, enriching my understanding and skills. Since then, my professional journey has been rooted in the private sector of NW London, where I continually augment my expertise through ongoing education and participation in conferences.

Over time, I observed a growing number of patients grappling with head pain, a challenge often overlooked in traditional healthcare settings. This sparked a deepened commitment to understanding and addressing this complex issue.

My patient base expanded, drawing referrals from an array of medical specialists, including neurologists, dentists, ENT specialists, and maxillofacial surgeons, signaling the need for a more comprehensive approach to head pain management. Delving into the intricacies of migraines, sinus pain, and vestibular disorders, I uncovered the interconnectedness between these conditions and musculoskeletal issues, particularly involving the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and neural irritation.

Recognising the dearth of specialised care in this domain, I resolved to establish a clinic dedicated to the treatment of head, neck, and facial pain, as well as vestibular dysfunction. Despite this specialisation, I remain steadfast in addressing underlying musculoskeletal imbalances, advocating for ergonomic adjustments to alleviate discomfort exacerbated by poor posture or workplace conditions.
